to Haiti relief effort

Through
the use of the Pilatus PC-12’s versatile capabilities,
NicholasAir was able to deliver medical supplies
to a remote village in Haiti. The small village
of Pignon sits in the center of Haiti in a deep
remote valley. A small makeshift grass field
is the only way to access the small village by
air, limiting most aircraft from landing there.
Only one aircraft can carry a ton of cargo, and
make the round trip from Florida. The Pilatus
PC-12 can leave Florida and make the trip to
Pignon in less than three hours. Jet fuel and
airports are sparse in Haiti and with the PC-12’s
extraordinary capabilities, enabled it get back
to Florida for another load of cargo without
the wasted time of searching for fuel or a fuel
stop. Many owners donated the use of their Pilatus
aircraft and this served as Pignons life line.
The roads in and out of the small village were
damaged which made it hard for supplies to reach
the village, so bringing them in by air was the
only option. The supplies went to a Hospitial
and orphanage that were over loaded after the
earthquake. People fled from the heavily damaged
cities of Haiti to the small village of Pignon
that suffered minimal damage. This surge of Haiti’s
people to the small village overwhelmed the hospital
and quickly depleted the supplies. One of the
Hospitals officials said, that they were going
through one month of supplies in one day. Click the play button to see the video. |
